Job Purpose

The Lead – Strategy & Projects, Emerging Markets will be responsible to lead commercial strategy, manage growth projects and engage in external partnering, to enhance revenue growth and improve profitability for Cipla in Emerging Markets. This role will support the CEO-EMEU and EMEU Leadership Team, to help Cipla EM&EU achieve its mid to long term objectives. The individual shall lead cross-functional high-impact projects, drive strategic thinking, business governance to accelerate growth for Emerging markets at Cipla

Key Accountabilities (1/6)

Growth Strategy : Planning and Execution

Co-own with CEO and ILT, the mid to long term vision for Cipla EM and newer areas for Cipla to grow profitably in Emerging markets

 

  • 3 and 5 year plan : Develop a firm 3 year and 5 year rolling plan for each region and cross function for EMs including portfolio, commercial model, resourcing , operations etc

The Big Picture: Identify and evaluate opportunities which could significantly impact Cipla’s growth and profitability in Emerging  markets. Identify risks/areas of concern across regions and strategically important focus areas thereby recommending actions for sustainable and profitable growth

  • Implementation: Oversee the implementation of the corporate strategy as well as the business unit / horizontal specific strategy across different geographies to ensure continued profitability in line with the envisaged organizational goals and targets
  • External benchmarking: Outside-in view on the ‘best practices’. Provide support as an internal consultant to function and regional business heads, by reviewing and recommending changes to existing functional strategies
  • Leverage: Liaise with Central Strat team and Other BU’s/ functions at Cipla, and cross pollinate learnings for EM EU.
  • Execution: Facilitate efficient decision making. Drive the smooth execution of decision and the key ongoing mandates

Key Accountabilities (2/6)

Program management and transformation office

  • Lead and drive key growth projects at EM and further collaborate with ILT and country teams.  Ensure the 3 & 5 year vision translates into core workstreams & achieve the quarterly milestones.
  • Central Projects : Central/ Global team on select projects, as required. Partner with CEO and ILT leaders to drive innovation and diversification agendas
  • Execute key projects. Partner with functional teams on special projects to identify new opportunities/ideas, work with external consultants, monitor project progress, debottleneck critical issues, manage cross-functional stakeholders and create transparency.
  • Piloting strategic imperatives: Implementation of agreed ‘ideas’ / Proof-of-concept testing

New Portfolio and GTM

 

  • Explore newer revenue models and propel faster, agile GTM approach
  • Evaluate and map new opportunities in each market / regions for a meaningful ‘play’ in allied segments like OTX, OTC, Wellness, Nutraceuticals, Biosimilars etc.
  • Explore newer possibilities to offer an ‘end-to-end’ healthcare solution in select markets, beyond existing product basket viz. diagnostics, E-commerce, devices etc.

Competitive Intelligence & analytics

  • Map the developments and trends in key markets/ therapies.  Lead the creation of frameworks and analysis to support strategic decisions.
  • Access external databases and information sources like IQVIA, EXIM and facilitate relevant insights and trends
  • Develop strategic plans for the organization and recommend to the International Business Head and Regional, Functional Heads through market intelligence and competitive analysis
  • Keep abreast of the latest market trends and developments and analyse competitor strategies to give informed suggestions about future trends and operating environment

Governance

  • EM Governance: Support the CEO & ILT in effectively driving the governance for International markets. 
  • Business Priorities:  Engage with the CEO and ILT to define the priorities for the given month/ quarter. Track the progress of these work streams and further support in resolving, as required

MBA from a Tier 1 B School

Relevant Work Experience

12+ years of experience with exposure to functional areas of commercial, strategy , M&A and commercial operations. Exposure to pharmaceutical industry with significant commercial experience and technical understanding
